Please check the information below for some reminders and updates regarding some key issues in school. We are working hard to raise standards and would appreciate your support with the following key school issues. Please note there are some differences with the process for communicating with parents with regard to detentions. This is a trial and we look forward to your feedback.
Following some student and parental feedback we are soon to be trialling a new method In order to inform you if your child has received a detention. Students will be issued with detention stickers in their planners as usual, but in addition we will now be sending out text messages to parents. This should avoid any possible confusion as the text will give you the date of the detention. We plan to launch this trial during the week commencing 13 March 2017. In order for this to work efficiently we will need you to ensure that the school does have your correct mobile number.
If your child is absent from school due to illness or any other reason, please ensure that a telephone call is made to school as early as possible, the school answerphone will record any messages. If the Attendance Office is not aware there is a reason for any absence they will send a text home to state that your child is not in school.
If parents/carers call into school to speak to a member of staff and they are not immediately available due to a teaching commitment or in a meeting, a message will be sent to the member of staff. Staff will try to return your call within 24 hours, however please be aware that should a member of staff be absent from school this could well be longer. Please address any urgent queries or concerns to your child’s Achievement Coordinator via Reception.
Our school uniform remains unchanged. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform at all times. If you have any concerns regarding this please contact the relevant Achievement Coordinator in the first instance. Please be aware that shoes must be 100% black with no visible markings or metal decorations.
Our mobile phone policy has not changed. Please be aware that should any student have their phone out in the building this will lead to it being confiscated. Parents will be contacted in order to make arrangements for them to collect the phones. They will not be returned to students.
School Reports and Assessment
How young people are awarded GCSEs and A Levels is undergoing considerable change. As a consequence of this, the schemes of work our school uses have been altered to prepare the children for the new style exams. This has resulted in changes to our school reporting process.
With this in mind Mr Averis, Deputy Headteacher, will be offering parental workshops on Tuesday 28th March 2017 to parents of children from all year groups. Workshops will run at 4.00 pm, 5.00 pm & 6.00 pm. If you would like to attend please contact Mrs K Steenton on 0121 378 1946.
