Eight of the Year 11 GCSE PE group spent yesterday in Sutton Park developing their mountain biking skills as part of their GCSE PE practical course. The conditions couldn’t have been worse – heavy rain fell throughout the day making the course very muddy and slippery. Our intrepid cyclists bravely tackled all the challenges set them, including the atrocious weather!
The students spent the morning learning new skills such as maintaining the 'attack' position of keeping the pedals level and body position forward when going downhill or approaching obstacles. They also practiced manual and power assisted lifts.
The afternoon session involved them showing all these new skills in short skill circuits and longer bike rides through Sutton Park. There were a few tired legs at the end of the day but the students had had an exhilarating experience and great credit must go to them all for their efforts in such extreme weather conditions.
