Last Wednesday Mr Grice and Mrs O'Connor took ten members of the Year 7 boys' football team to Aston Villa's training facilities at Bodymoor Heath where they took part in a two hour training session. This took place on the indoor pitch and was led by first team right midfielder and Ghanaian international, Albert Adomah, along with several members of the Aston Villa Academy.
Gaby Agbonlahor also came to watch the boys train for a while. Our team practised passing, dribbling and shooting drills, as well as playing 6-a-side games and the session ended with a penalty shoot-out. All the boys had a fantastic experience and were thrilled to work with such famous players as well as seeing Manager Steve Bruce and other players who were also at the training headquarters.
The Aston Villa staff were extremely complimentary about our boys' behaviour, as well as their footballing ability, saying 'John Willmott Year 7's were an absolute credit to the school and all displayed exemplary behaviour and great discipline and skills on the field of play'.
To finish off a brilliant afternoon, Mrs O’Connor an avid Aston Villa supporter and celebrating her birthday that day, had a photo taken with Albert Adomah who then, much to her amazement and delight, gave her a pair of his personalised football boots! What a birthday to remember!
