Eight of our Year 8 students were selected to take part in a cricket festival this week held at Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground designed for children of all abilities with the aim of developing interest in the sport. The students competed in a mixed tournament along with 6 other schools.
They were divided up into different teams which gave them the opportunity to meet other students as well as to develop their cricketing skills. There was some excellent batting talent on show as well as some very accurate bowling. Our students did themselves and the school proud as they scored runs and took wickets for their respective teams in what was, for most of them, their first experience of competitive cricket.
In addition to this they also met Ireland and Birmingham Bears star Will Porterfield who held a question and answer session during their lunch break. It was a fantastic day all round which our students thoroughly enjoyed and they all were a credit to John Willmott School, the glorious weather only added to the marvellous experience.
