In one of our recent SPHERE sessions we had a talk from a company called Pause. This company, which is based in Birmingham City Centre, offers help to anybody who is suffering with a mental illness or just wants someone to talk to about things that are bothering them such as family problems or exam stress. The speakers explained that there is no need to book in advance, all you have to do is turn up and someone will be there to greet you and make you welcome and then they will take you to someone you can talk to about your worries and concerns.
The talk was very useful as we have now all broadened our own knowledge with information about mental health and how it affects different people in different ways. We also found out that suicide is the biggest killer in the UK for men, it even kills more men than cancer. It was a great SPHERE talk as we now know we all have a place to go to if we feel anxious or stressed about anything. Pause is only available for young people under the age of 25, however there is a different company that offers help to over 25’s.
