Heather Ross returned to our Sixth Form to deliver her talk on bone marrow and blood stem cell donation. It was an extremely interesting talk where she goes through her personal experience of saving a life by being on the Anthony Nolan register and donating her own bone marrow quite a few years ago.
Anthony Nolan is an organisation that every day matches individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people with blood cancer and blood disorders who desperately need lifesaving transplants.
Courtney Joyce in Year 12 stated:
“I found the talk both interesting and informative. In particular I found how easy it is to sign up to go onto the register in order to donate bone marrow and stem cells. As a result of the talk I registered to donate blood and I will be going shortly to Sutton Town Hall for my first blood donation. I realised that if I ever need blood or stem cells myself I would be really grateful to those who have donated so felt I needed to do it myself.”
