Year 7 Transition

John Willmott School were delighted to be able to welcome their new Year 7 cohort on Thursday 28 May to their ‘Year 6 Friendship Evening’.

New students, along with their families visited the school to not only see the site but experience learning! It was an opportunity to welcome and showcase what John Willmott School has to offer our young people.

Families were greeted by some of the school’s orchestra playing live music whilst they were served refreshments, including ‘John Willmott School’ cupcakes baked and decorated my Mrs Wilkins, Food Technology teacher.

Visitors were then welcomed by the Acting Headteacher, Nicola Gould. Year 6s were invited to join one of three lessons: Music, History or Drama, where they were immersed in ‘Riffs’; ‘Horrible Histories’ or ‘Improvisation’. Whilst students were enjoying their new learning experiences, their parents and carers heard Mrs Gould speak about improving standards at John Willmott School and then from two year 7s: Rosie and Ekene, who spoke about their experiences since joining the school- including new subjects and learning; form time and meeting new friends.

Families then joined their children in lessons, where their confidence in interacting with one another and staff was evident. Students came together from a variety of Primary Schools and so it was an important time to begin to make new, long lasting friendships ahead of the city-wide transition day on 6 July.

This was an invaluable opportunity to familiarise students with the site, allow them to meet  their new year  group and communicate with their families the school’s vision, standards and priorities.
