School Uniform

All students in Years 7 to 11 are expected to wear school uniform. Please make sure that each garment is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Detailed below are the expectations for uniform and the suppliers. We are committed to making the uniform affordable whilst also being smart and durable.

All students in Years 7 to 11 are expected to wear school uniform.  Parents / Carers are requested to check that articles of clothing are regularly cleaned so that students are smart and prepared for learning and the work environment.  Please make sure that each garment is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

BLAZERGrey with the school badge
SKIRTPlain black knee length skirt or black knee length shalwar kameez – no more than 4 inches above or below the knee.
TROUSERSBlack cotton/polyester school trousers – no tight material (e.g. Lycra) orjeans/skinny jeans/tight trousers.
SHIRTWhite with a collar and top button to be worn with the school tie.
TIEJohn Willmott School tie – clip on.
JUMPERGrey V-neck jumper with school badge may be worn as an additional layer under the blazer (optional).
TIGHTS/SOCKSPlain black only.
SHOES 100%Plain black only.  These should be a style suitable for school wear, with a sensible heel and should fit properly – no logos or coloured stripes.  Laces must be black.
SCHOOL BAG + PENCIL CASESuitable size for carrying books, planner and pencil case. Small pouches are not allowed.
COATStudents should only wear a proper outdoor coat on top of their uniform. Tracksuit tops, hoodies, sweatshirts, denim jackets and other fashion items are not allowed to be worn in school as a coat.  
MAKE UPStudents are permitted to wear natural looking make up in school but no nail varnish or acrylic nails.
JEWELLERYThe only jewellery permitted is one small stud earring per ear and one finger ring. These must be removed for PE.
HAIRNo brightly coloured hair dyes.  No patterns cut into hair or large accessories.  Headscarves must be black only.  (Please contact the Head of Year if uncertain about hair styles)
APPEARANCEAll students are expected to be smartly dressed and to take care of and pride in their appearance.  Staff will give instructions to any student whose appearance, dress or presentation is unsatisfactory. 

Parents / Carers are asked to refer to the above list whenever they replace items of clothing.  John Willmott School blazer, jumper and tie can be purchased at Clive Marks or The Uniform Hub (see contact details below).  All other items of uniform can be bought in local shops and chain stores. 

Games and Physical Education Kit

The kit for activities within the Department should be as follows:

  • Purple school polo shirt
  • Black and purple school shorts or black skort
  • Purple reversible school rugby shirt
  • Black and purple school knee length socks or plain black knee length socks
  • Trainers with non-marking sole (not high ankle)
  • Shin pads
  • Football boots                                                            
  • Gum shield (recommended)

Optional

  • Black and purple school shorts or skorts                                
  • Black leggings with purple stripe or
  • Black track-suit bottoms or jogging bottoms (for outdoor use)       
  • Purple school mid layer top (fleece)
  • Black school base layer

Students’ names should be marked on all items of kit

  • No jewellery will be allowed to be worn for PE/Games lessons. For health and safety reasons, any earrings which cannot be removed should be covered with micropore tape or a plaster for a period of 6 weeks only.
  • Trainers should be suitable for all sports.  For health and safety reasons these should NOT be high ankle basketball trainers or canvas pumps/Vanns/Converse.
  • It is school policy that if students forget kit they will be lent spare laundered kit from the PE Office.
  • It is a statutory requirement as part of the National Curriculum that all students participate in PE.  The exception is a medical exclusion which needs to be supported by a note from your parent.  In this case students will still participate in the lesson either by completing written work or taking on an alternative role such as coach/official.
  • Staff will lock changing rooms, but students are responsible for the safety of their own property. 
  • Long hair must be tied back for Health and Safety reasons.
  • If your child uses an inhaler, please make sure they have it for all PE/Games lessons.
